Ed Sheeran channels his inner Elton John in new single Shivers as music video clocks more than two million streams within hours

Ed Sheeran's new single Shivers has clocked up more than two million video streams just hours after being released.

The Suffolk superstar dropped his second single from his upcoming album = (equals) at midnight, and the music video has already been streamed well over two million times, with the play counter set to climb over the three million mark later today.

The Shivers music video, directed by Dave Mayers, stars the Ipswich Town sponsor alongside AnnaSophia Robb.

The video shows a whirlwind romance, with the Framlingham icon waiting desperately for a text message, him jumping on the front of a train, having his guitar stolen outside a 'Bro-tel', and some superpowers for good measure.

And he channels his inner Elton John, with a brief appearance in a sequin suit, feathers and pink glasses.

The release today comes as he is waiting to find out if his single Bad Habits scores another week as the UK's Number One.

Bad Habits has been at the top of the charts for 10 weeks, despite the best efforts of Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber's Stay.

Both Bad Habits and Shivers will be on = (equals) when it is released on October 29.

When he announced its release earlier this year he described the album as a 'personal record and one that means a lot to me'.

"My life changed greatly over the past few years – I got married, became a father, experienced loss, and I reflect on these topics over the course of the album. I see it as my coming-of-age record, and I can’t wait to share this next chapter with you," he said.

The tracklisting for = (equals) is: Tides, Shivers, First Times, Bad Habits, Overpass Graffiti, The Joker And The Queen, Leave Your Life, Collide, 2Step, Stop The Rain, Love In Slow Motion, Visiting Hours, Sandman, Be Right Now.

The album has been written and recorded in sessions across Suffolk, London, Sweden, and Los Angeles.
