Elderly woman's bank card stolen in distraction theft at Ipswich supermarket car park

Thieves distracted an elderly woman at an Ipswich supermarket car park yesterday before stealing and using her bank card.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the theft, which happened when a woman in her 80s was unpacking her shopping into the boot of her car at the shop on Felixstowe Road at about 12.20pm.

The woman was approached by a man who started talking to her. Another man then reached into her bag and stole a card holder containing cards.

The men then ran away and the bank card was used at a nearby ATM.

One suspect is described as being over 5ft tall, late 30s/early 40s, and well built. He had light brown hair, with brown eyes and was wearing a white face mask.

The second man was about 24 years old.

Police have shared security and safety guidance to residents on cash machines and personal security following the theft.

Anyone who has any information about the theft is asked to contact Suffolk Police on 101, quoting crime reference 37/11403/21.
