Four fire crews have attended and extinguished a fire on the roof of a primary school in Lowestoft this evening.

Crews from Gorleston, Great Yarmouth, Wrentham and Lowestoft South were called to the fire at Poplars Primary School on St Margarets Road around 7pm this evening.

The call came in after reports of smoke rising from the top of the school, with the fire service quickly bringing the fire under control once the first teams arrived.

Poplars Primary School has since released the following statement on its Facebook page: "Thank you to everyone for your concerns. There was a small localised fire on the roof, which has been dealt with and made safe.

"Fortunately this has not affected the building in any way and we will be open as normal tomorrow."
