Ipswich Wharf Developments Ltd applies to build flats in empty retail space at The Winerack

Vacant commercial units sitting at the bottom of a flats complex on Ipswich waterfront could be converted into more homes.

Ipswich Wharf Developments Ltd has submitted plans to convert space on the first and second floors of The Winerack into four residential units.

Each flat would contain two or three bedrooms, an open plan kitchen and living area plus an en-suite toilet.

These units have sat unused for a number of years in what the applicant described as ‘arguably one of the most commercially desirable areas of Ipswich’.

It felt the need for more housing in the town was severe and in line with national shortages.

As the units are empty, there is no risk for a loss of employment, planning documents said.

The proposals will go before planners soon.
