Flood alert issued for parts of Suffolk and Essex, including Stour and Orwell estuaries, affecting towns including Clacton, Ipswich and Felixstowe




A flood alert has been issued for parts of Suffolk ahead of expected high tides.

The Environment Agency has warned that flooding may be possible along a stretch of the Suffolk and Essex coast, from Clacton to Felixstowe, including Ipswich.

This means that low-lying footpaths and areas along the estuaries of the Rivers Orwell and Stour may become waterlogged between 11pm today and 1am tomorrow.

This update has been provided after a flood alert was in place for this morning.

A spokesman for the Environment Agency said: “The flood gates at Felixstowe seafront will be closed. The waterfront at Pin Mill, and The Strand at Wherstead under the Orwell Bridge may be flooded. Water may be on the quay at Mistley.

“Take care on coastal roads and footpaths, and don't put yourself in unnecessary danger.

“We are monitoring the situation. We will update this message by 2pm, Sunday November 17.”
