Environment Agency issues flood warnings for Suffolk and Essex, including Felixtowe, Ipswich and Clacton as well as River Orwell and Stour estuaries
A flood alert has been issued for parts of Suffolk as high tides are expected.
The Environment Agency has warned that flooding may be possible along a stretch of the Suffolk and Essex coast, from Clacton to Felixstowe, including Ipswich, between 11.30pm today and 1.30am tomorrow.
This means that low-lying footpaths and areas along the estuaries of the Rivers Orwell and Stour may become waterlogged.
The body has warned that higher than usual tides are expected and has urged people to take care.
A spokesperson for the Environment Agency said: “The flood gates at Felixstowe seafront will be closed. The waterfront at Pin Mill and The Strand at Wherstead under the Orwell Bridge may be flooded. Water may be on the quay at Mistley.
“The current series of high spring tides has now reached its peak and will fall away over the next few days.
“Take care on coastal roads and footpaths and don't put yourself in unnecessary danger.
“We are monitoring the situation.”
