World Book Day 2022: Four of Suffolk's best independent book shops you can support




Across Suffolk there are a wealth of independent stores for book lovers to visit.

Their shelves are stacked to the brim, giving customers the ability to get lost for hours as they become engrossed into their favourite novels.

Here are four of our favourite bookshops in Suffolk which you can support to celebrate World Book Day.

1. Harris & Harris Books, Clare

This popular shop in Suffolk's smallest town may look tiny from the outside, but hundreds of book line the shelves across two floors.

Opened in 2011 by owner Kate Harris, Harris & Harris has become a playground for book lovers to get lost in pages.

Last year, the shop was short-listed for the Independent Bookshop of the Year in the East of England at the 2021 British Book Awards.

With books available both in store and online, this could be the perfect book shop to visit on a day out to one of Suffolk's most idyllic town's.

2. Dial Lane Books, Ipswich

Tucked down a small side street in the centre of Ipswich is the charming Dial Lane Books.

Recently nominated for 2022 East of England Independent Bookshop of the Year, the shop attracts customers from far and wide.

Owner Andrew Marsh runs a range of events through the year, and offers books suitable for both children and adults.

The store is opening from 9am until 4pm from Tuesday to Saturday.

3. Woodbridge Emporium, Woodbridge

It is not just the books that customers love here - the teashop is also a huge attraction.

Located in the Thoroughfare, the Woodbridge Emporium has shelves lined with books able to cater for every visitor.

Last year saw the shop, which is known for its brightly coloured entrance and front, named as one of the top ten independent bookshops in the country by The Guardian.

4. Aldeburgh Bookshop, Aldeburgh

The Aldeburgh Bookshop has been sat at the heart of the seaside town for over 70 years.

As a town, there is a long history with literature as English poet George Crabbe is believed to have been born.

The shop is also the centre of the popular Aldeburgh Literary Festival, with owners John and Mary James having founded the event in 2002.

The store has thousands of followers on social media, and is the perfect location for book lovers visiting the seaside hotspot.
