A further case of monkeypox has been detected in Suffolk.

One case had been reported in Mid Suffolk at the end of June, with Suffolk County Council revealing 'low numbers' had been reported and dealt with by the UK Health and Security Agency.

The latest Notifications of Infectious Diseases (NOID) reports shows one case of the disease has been reported in Ipswich.

As of August 1, there are 2,672 confirmed cases of monkeypox in the UK, with another 87 'highly probable' instances.

Of these cases, 2,638 are in England.

An urgent investigation was launched last month after cases were detected in England.

The infection is spread through close contact with someone with monkeypox. Most people go onto recover within a few weeks, but it can take between five and 21 days for the infection to appear.
