Officers launched a murder probe into the death of Charlie Greaves, who died in Felixstowe after emergency services attended an incident at the seafront promenade by Undercliff Road West at about 9.20pm on Saturday, August 10 to a report of an assault.

Subject to confirmation at formal inquest proceedings, he was identified as Charlie Greaves, who lived in Ipswich.

A Suffolk Police spokesperson said Mr Greaves would have been seen with his dog, a brown and white Staffordshire bull terrier and boxer crossbreed.

Mr Greaves’ family said he was deeply loved and will be sorely missed by all his family and friends.

They added: “Charlie was an affable young man who was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

“He had been with his partner for eight years and loved to go on holiday with his family. He doted on his grandparents and would help to care for them.

“His pet Princess was a rescue dog that he had acquired about nine months ago and she had brought him a great deal of joy. He also loved to cook and play his music loud.

“He had a heart bigger than Ipswich and loved to chat – he would talk to anyone and everyone.

“He made an impact on the lives of everyone he met.”

A 28-year-old man from Felixstowe was arrested on Monday, August 12, on suspicion of murder.

He was taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning and bailed to return on October 7.

Officers continue to ask anyone who may have witnessed an altercation or who has any information about the man’s death to contact the Major Investigation Team, quoting crime reference 37/45286/24 via the website.
