Debenham dad suffers scratches in throat after choking on eggshells from Ipswich McDonald’s breakfast wrap

Fast food giant McDonald’s has apologised after a man choked on eggshells from a breakfast wrap and suffered scratches in his throat.

Roshane McClymont, 29, who lives in Debenham, ordered two breakfast wraps on the McDonald’s app for him and his partner at 11.15am on Sunday.

After collecting their order from the McDonald’s branch in Whitehouse, Ipswich, Roshane was forced to spit out his wrap after feeling something sharp in his throat.

“To tell the truth, I felt I was basically dying because it felt like I had swallowed glass, it was that sharp,” he said.

“The last thing I expected was to be swallowing eggshells and my partner had to hit me hard on my back because I was choking so badly.

“I was completely shocked and scared and then I just felt disgusted. I couldn’t believe it.”

Roshane attended Ipswich Hospital and was told he had suffered several scratches in his throat.

He then reported the incident to a member of staff at the Whitehouse branch.

“I think that will be the last time I go to McDonald's as I’ve definitely been put off from it now,” he said. “If I have McDonald’s again I think I’ll feel sick.”

“I have a seven-year-old son who likes McDonald's and now I'm going to have to tell him that he can’t have it anymore.

“It’s absolutely terrifying to think that could've been my son choking on the eggshells and how dangerous that could be for him.”

A McDonald’s spokesperson said: “We are sorry to hear about this customer’s experience.

“We use freshly cracked eggs throughout our breakfast menu and on this occasion a piece of eggshell appears to have found its way into the Breakfast Wrap.

“As soon as the customer brought this to our attention, they were apologised to and offered a full refund which was declined.

“We understand our Customer Services Team is picking up with the customer to help find a resolution.”
