Large cordon in place in Ipswich town centre, due to incident in Butter Market




A cordon is in place in Ipswich town centre due to a police-led incident.

Suffolk Police have closed Thoroughfare and Dial Lane, with parts of Tavern Street, Princes Street and Butter Market also taped off.

They were called to the scene after reports of a burglary at Carats Jewellers, in Butter Market, at about 4.35am. The incident has since been resolved - for an update click here.

Another call reported that the suspect, a male, climbed onto the roof of the building.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service is also at the scene with a turntable ladder.

The East of England Ambulance Service is also assisting.

The cordon has blocked off the north entrance to the Buttermarket Shopping Centre, leading to fears businesses could lose thousands of pounds in trade.
