Major delays on A14 in Ipswich due to Orwell Bridge lane closure
Motorists are experiencing heavy delays on the A14 this morning due to one lane of the Orwell Bridge being shut.
Over the weekend, National Highways East confirmed the westbound carriageway would be down to one lane ‘until further notice’ due to inspections finding a bridge joint ‘in a potentially unsafe condition’.
Due to the closure, there are long delays tailing back towards Nacton and Bucklesham.
The AA Traffic Map is showing delays of around half an hour.
A Highways East spokesperson said: “We appreciate the impact this will have on the local community but taking this course of action is necessary to ensure all road users remain safe whilst travelling on our road networks.”
There is no diversion route in place as the second lane is still in use.
Ipswich Buses has also been impacted with severe delays to services on routes one to six.
