Ryland Headley, 92, of Clarence Road, Ipswich, due in court again next year charged with rape and murder of Louisa Dunne in 1967

A 92-year-old man will appear in court again next year charged with the rape and murder of a woman nearly 60 years ago.

SuffolkNews reported yesterday that Ryland Headley, of Clarence Road, Ipswich, appeared before Bristol Magistrates’ Court accused of killing Louisa Dunne, 75, who was found dead in her home in Bristol on June 28, 1967.

Today, Bristol Crown Court set a date of February 14, 2025, for a plea and trial preparation hearing for Headley.

The court also discussed a potential June 16 start date for a High Court trial, which is expected to last two to three weeks.

Headley was not present at crown court today.

Louisa, who lived in Britannia Road, in the Easton area of the city, was found dead in her home by her neighbour.

Her cause of death was determined to be strangulation and asphyxiation, and she had also been raped.

Headley was remanded in custody.
