Ipswich Sidegate Lane incident sees man and woman charged with murder after body of two-year-old girl found
A man and a woman have been charged with murder after the death of a two-year-old in Ipswich.
Police and ambulance crews were called to council-run temporary accommodation in Sidegate Lane just after 11.45am last Friday, and discovered the body of a girl inside.
A Home Office post-mortem examination took place this morning, but further tests are required – and formal identification has not taken place.
Scott Jeff and Chelsea Gleason-Mitchell, both 22 and of no fixed abode, but formerly of Bedfordshire, have been charged with murder after the incident.
The pair, who were known to the victim, were arrested in Bury St Edmunds early Saturday morning and taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.
They have been remanded in custody and are due to appear before Suffolk Magistrates’ Court in Ipswich tomorrow.
Floral tributes were laid yesterday, and both neighbours and residents of the accommodation expressed their shock.
A Suffolk Police spokesman said mandatory referral was made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct regarding previous police contact with the deceased elsewhere.
Detectives continue to probe the incident.
