Man from Felixstowe arrested following Ipswich house fire in Portman Road
A man has been arrested following a suspected arson at a house which left a man and woman injured after they jumped from an upstairs window to escape.
Emergency services were called at 5.17am to a fire at a terrace house in Portman Road, Ipswich, near the football stadium.
Six people were inside the burning home and though four escaped uninjured, a man and a woman have been taken to Ipswich Hospital for treatment for the effects of breathing in smoke and leg fractures after jumping from the upstairs window.
A spokesperson for Suffolk Fire and Rescue also said those injured suffered from burns and cuts.
A further 11 neighbouring residents were evacuated and arrangements are being made by Ipswich Borough Council to accommodate them in a refuge centre until it is safe for them to return to their homes.
A 24-year-old man, from Felixstowe, has been arrested in connection with the incident and has been taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.
The incident is being treated as suspected arson and officers believe it was a localised and targeted attack.
A police cordon is in place at the house and Suffolk Police is appealing for any witnesses to get in touch with South CID at Landmark House in Ipswich, quoting reference 45775/24.
