36-year-old Ipswich man charged with dangerous driving following crash at the weekend




A 36-year-old man appeared in court yesterday, charged with dangerous driving following a crash at the weekend.

Jason Nicholls of Hawke Road, Ipswich, was arrested in connection with a crash in Bramford Road, at the junction with Norwich Road, just after midnight on Saturday, July 24.

Officers on patrol had attempted to pull over Nicholls, who was driving a black Audi TT, in Sirdar Road, but he sped away from the police and crashed into a lamppost a few hundred yards away.

One person in the car ran away from the scene of the crash, but was quickly caught by the police.

A second person was taken to hospital for a check-up and was later discharged.

Jason Nicholls was taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning and was subsequently charged with dangerous driving, driving without insurance, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, and possession of a Class A drug.

Nicholls is due to appear before Ipswich Crown Court on Monday, August 23.

A 37-year-old man from Ipswich was also arrested as part of this investigation, on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking.

He was taken in for questioning and released under investigation, pending further enquiries.
