Ipswich murder investigation launched as Suffolk Police name man found dead in Hawthorn Drive as William McNicholl, 63




Police have named the man found dead at a property on a town estate as a murder investigation is now under way.

Officers were called to Hawthorn Drive, Ipswich, on Wednesday, January 1 where a body of a man was found within a property.

Subject to confirmation at formal inquest proceedings, the man has been named as William McNicholl, 63, of Ipswich, known as Billy.

A Home Office post-mortem took place yesterday which indicate the cause of death to be from multiple injuries.

Suffolk Constabulary’s Major Investigation Team is leading a murder inquiry and a police cordon remains in place at the premises.

Residents will notice an increased police presence, both uniformed and non-uniformed, as investigations continue.

Police are urging anyone with information or who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area between Tuesday, December 24 and Wednesday, January 1 to get in touch quoting reference number 37/162/25.
