Man held on suspicion of murder after attack at Ipswich guest house in Norwich Road

Detectives are tonight questioning a man on suspicion of murder after an attack at an Ipswich guest house.

Emergency services were called to Beaumont Guest House in Norwich Road at about 4.50pm today after a man in his 30s was attacked inside the property.

Doctors fought to save his life, but he was pronounced dead a short time later.

A 40-year-old man is now being questioned by detectives at Martlesham Police Investigation Centre on suspicion or murder.

Suffolk Police said he was initially arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

Forensic teams and police officers remain at the Norwich Road guest house as they continue with their investigation.

A Suffolk Police spokesman said: "Early enquiries lead detectives to believe that this was an isolated incident and as such, there is not any wider threat to the local community."

And detectives have tonight launched an appeal for more information.

"Any witnesses, or anyone with information about this incident, is asked to contact Suffolk Police, quoting crime reference number 37/37163/21," the police spokesman said.

Earlier today a nearby shopkeeper told Suffolk News they saw an air ambulance land near at about 5pm in Sherrington Road Recreation Area, which is nearby.

"As I walked past I saw an ambulance with its doors open and loads of police cars there," they said.
