An Ipswich man has been jailed for six months after trying to steal a 61-year-old woman's handbag.
Alexandru Hoitu, of Pauline Street, approached the woman from behind in Martin Road at around 7pm on Saturday.
The 26 year old tried to grab her handbag, which was wrapped around her hand, but left the scene when he realised he couldn't get it.
The woman was left shaken but unhurt by the incident.
Hoitu was later taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning and was subsequently charged.
He appeared on Monday at Ipswich Magistrates' Court, where he pleaded guilty.
He was jailed for 26 weeks and ordered to pay £128 in compensation to the victim, who has offered to donate it to a police charity.
