New chaplain at Royal Hospital School in Holbrook, near Ipswich, excited to take on role
The new chaplain of a Suffolk independent school has told of her excitement to guide pupils on their journeys into faith and spirituality.
Katherine Page will take up her new role at the Royal Hospital School (RHS), in Holbrook, near Ipswich, from January 1.
Reverend Page first felt a call to the ministry attending St. John’s School in Leatherhead, Surrey, before studying theology at Westminster College, Oxford, she said.
She previously worked as the head of RHS’s philosophy, religions and ethics course and taught religious studies at Woodbridge School and Wymondham College.
Reverend Page spoke of her ambitions and aspirations in her new role.
She said: “I care deeply about pastoral care and spiritual growth, and look forward to developing an environment which includes and supports everyone; pupils, families and staff alike.
“It is an exciting time to be joining RHS and I am delighted to be part of this community, helping everyone discover their unique gifts, and supporting the wellbeing of all.”
Chapel services at RHS typically happen twice per week plus most Sundays.
Reverend Page said three of her four children now attend RHS while her husband is an RAF officer.
Prior to ordination, she travelled the globe, visiting places including Cyprus, the USA and other parts of the UK.
Upon her return, she continued to teach and volunteered as a hospital chaplain.
She said she was inspired to enter into the clergy after a ‘chance conversion’ at a Christmas service, going onto train at Westcott House, Cambridge, completing a master’s degree in theology, mission and ministry.
Reverend Page succeeds Reverend Laura Mumford, who spent the last two years in the role.
Irfan Latif, the headteacher of RHS, said: “We are all very grateful to Laura for her contributions and we know that many pupils and parents will join us in expressing our shared gratitude for the impact she has had.
“Her compassion, kindness, guidance and warm spirit will be missed, but we wish her all the best on her journey with the Diocese.”
Mr Latif also extended his warm welcome to Reverend Page.
She will provide support and reassurance to pupils and parents, he said.
Mr Latif added: “Reverend Page brings a wealth of experience with her in pastoral care, spiritual guidance, and community building, making her a valuable addition to our school family. We are truly fortunate to have her join us in this valuable role.”
