The Midnight Walk in Ipswich raises thousands for St Elizabeth Hospice
More than 1,200 hospice supporters in striking neon fancy dress attended a fundraiser walk in Suffolk on Saturday.
St Elizabeth Hospice’s colourful Midnight Walk in Ipswich has already raised £90,000 in donations, while giving an opportunity to remember those no longer with us.
One of those walking in memory of a loved one on Saturday was Lena Porter, whose 46-year old husband Lee Porter died from bowel cancer under the care of the hospice last January.
Ms Porter officially set the walkers on their way alongside Judi Newman, hospice chief executive – and BBC Radio Suffolk presenter Sarah Lilley compered the event.
Lena Porter said: “It has been an amazing evening with lots of laughter, but also a very special time to think of Lee.
“Every step I did was for Lee and I am so proud to have done this in tribute to him.
“I have done the midnight walk previously and, once again, it was just brilliant to be around so many incredible people celebrating and showing their love for this special local charity.”
This was the first Midnight Walk in Ipswich since 2021, having been replaced with The Big Hoot art trail last year.
Donations are still coming in from sponsors.
