Ipswich Bazaar to open at former Poundland in Carr Street unit this summer
A new multicultural supermarket and restaurant will be coming to Ipswich town centre this summer.
Ipswich Bazaar will open in the former Poundland unit, in Carr Street, around mid-June.
Owner Ariful Islam, 46, who lives in the town, said he hopes the new store will be a place where people of all cultures and backgrounds can come and find the goods and groceries they want and need.
Ipswich Bazaar will be open seven days a week, from 8am until 11pm.
“Basically I thought about the town first, the town is really dying and absolutely dry,” Mr Islam said. “I thought, if I open this, with ample car parking next to it, it would be convenient for customers.
“We do not have this sort of multicultural supermarket in Suffolk, so I thought why not bring all communities together in one place – we will have food from all over the world, no one will be left behind.
“I will try my best. I can’t promise we will have every single bit, but I hope that people will come to my shop and come out with happy faces.”
Mr Islam said Ipswich Bazaar will stock groceries and produce from the Indian subcontinent and Africa as well as Arabic, European and English foods.
He also runs a transport business in the town with more than 100 employees.
The restaurant will be an Indian and Turkish blend and be available to all customers regardless of if they are shopping or not. It will also have a staffed children’s play area to the side.
The new supermarket is in the near vicinity of Ipswich’s Cox Lane, Upper Orwell Street and Tacket Street car parks.
