One lane on A14 westbound on Orwell Bridge to shut overnight ‘until further notice’
One lane on the Orwell Bridge will be shut overnight ‘until further notice’.
National Highways East posted on Facebook yesterday saying the A14 westbound would be down to one lane over the river crossing due to inspections finding a bridge joint ‘in a potentially unsafe condition’.
The agency has confirmed today the closure will remain in place tonight and into next week.
A spokesperson said: “The lane across the bridge will remain closed throughout the weekend and certainly into next week for safety reasons.
“The lane closure is in place ahead of repairs which will be undertaken as a matter of urgency.
“We appreciate the impact this will have on the local community but taking this course of action is necessary to ensure all road users remain safe whilst travelling on our road networks.
“We will carry out all work overnight when traffic levels are at their lowest to cause the least possible disruption.
There is no diversion route in place, as the second lane will still be in use.
The spokesperson advised drivers to allow extra time for journeys.
