Oxbridge awaits for Northgate Sixth Form students as the Ipswich school celebrates A-level success
An Ipswich sixth form is celebrating as its class of 2024 venture on to exciting new pastures after competing their A-levels – including Oxbridge.
Six pupils from Northgate Sixth Form have secured their place at Oxford or Cambridge, while 27 per cent of pupils gear up for life at a Russell Group university.
Of these, three are heading to the University of Cambridge, including Evie Mitchell, who secured the country’s highest mark for A-level law when she and others picked up their results last month.
Three more will head to the University of Oxford, studying biology, law and philosophy, politics and economics (PPE).
Rowena Mackie, headteacher of Northgate High School, said she was incredibly proud of the achievements of students at its Sixth Form.
She said: “It is a testament to the fantastic staff we have at Northgate who teach, guide and support our students, as well as our students’ own hardworking ethos, that they leave us equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to access a wide range of higher education courses or vocational pathways.”
In addition to Oxbridge, other pupils have secured degree apprenticeships for local accountancy and law firms, trainee roles in the healthcare and construction sectors, apprenticeships in mechanics or social care.
Hannah Laughlin, who will study PPE at Oxford this October, said: “I am grateful for the teachers at Northgate who were constantly helpful, encouraging and went above and beyond to help me get into Oxford University, as well as making sure that all students could succeed.”
Last week, the sixth form welcomed 250 new students from Suffolk and beyond.
John Alexander, head of sixth form, said it was an exciting time for the school and spoke of how proud they were for their students’ success.
“We are committed to working with and supporting all of our students so that they too are able to succeed with their goals,” he added.
