Ipswich Town fans gather in their thousands to celebrate promotion with a blue party
Thousands of Ipswich Town fans celebrated their Premier League promotion today by turning the town blue.
Fans donned Town shirts by the hundred to trumpet the Tractor Boys’ return to the top flight of English football.
For some of the younger fans, it’ll be the first time they have seen the East Anglian side against the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool - Town were last in the Premier League 22 years ago.
Today saw an open top bus parade, with the players and staff on board, begin a journey in Sir Alf Ramsey Way.
The bus started at Portman Road, travelling acrosss town to end up in Christchurch Park. Estimates put the number at Christchurch Park at 35,000 while more than 50,000 fans are thought to have lined the route.
Suffolk News reporters were among the fans at Portman Road and captured the atmosphere.
The party comes just two days after Town secured the second automatic promotion spot, with a 2-0 win against Huddersfield Town.
Manager Keiran McKenna was full of praise for his squad, with whom he has now enjoyed back-toback promotions.
Club sponsor and music superstar Ed Sheeran was also quick to pass on his best to the team - and video-called the team to say a special well done.
