Photographs of Ipswich Christmas Lights turn-on event at the Cornhill and the tree outside the University of Suffolk
Christmas has officially begun in Ipswich after the lights were turned on in the town centre on Thursday.
Returning after a two-year absence due to the Covid-19 pandemic, families were treated to a special event hosted by BBC Radio Suffolk presenter Wayne Bavin and an exclusive performance from the cast of this year's Ipswich Regent Theatre panto, Peter Pan.
Festivities began at 5pm, before the cast joined the mayor of Ipswich, Councillor John Cook, in turning on the Christmas lights at 6.45pm.
In addition to the town hall, Christmas lights are present elsewhere in the Cornhill, including at the front of the Botanist.
There are also street lights in Westgate Street, Tavern Street, Carr Street, Buttermarket, and Princes Street.
Crown Car Park has also been adorned.
The 'bauble tree' – which was used in the Cornhill a few years ago – is sat outside the University of Suffolk's main building on the waterfront.
A Norwegian pine was used in the Cornhill, which came from Elveden Forest near Thetford.
It also saw the first night of late night shopping in the town centre.
Until December 22, car park stays will be extended, allowing visitors to park for £2.50 between 2pm until 9.30pm.
The council has urged as many businesses as possible to take part.
