Criminal investigation under way after death of Leavenheath 101-year-old woman Irene James, in Ipswich, inquest told




Criminal proceedings may be brought after the death of a 101-year-old woman, an inquest has heard.

Irene James, of Leavenheath, near Sudbury, died in Park View Care home, in Ipswich, on August 16, 2021, Suffolk Coroner’s Court was told today.

Mrs James was admitted to Broomfield Hospital, in Chelmsford, via Ipswich Hospital with burns after being scalded by a cup of tea at Avocet Court Care Home, in Monmouth Close, Ipswich, on June 12, 2021.

An inquest into Ms James’ death has been suspended until October.

She was then discharged to Park View Care Home.

Her death was confirmed by a nurse.

Paul Sermons, senior coroner officer, said a criminal investigation was under way, with a chance someone may be charged with a related offence in connection with the death of Mrs James.

The inquest has been suspended until October 21.
