See how work is progressing to build build new link road between Europa Way and Bramford Road, Ipswich as Suffolk Highways issues update after a month
The foundations for a new link road in Ipswich have been laid after more than a month of work.
Suffolk Highways has provided an update on the project to extend Europa Way, joining it with Bramford Road.
Both the foundations and sub-base stone have been placed along the route, with kerb installation penciled in for next week.
On the Bramford Road side, trenches were dug to prepare for underground utility service diversions.
A spokesperson for Suffolk Highways said street lighting was disconnected and removed to make way for the new roundabout.
In addition, drainage soakaway on the Europe Way side was dug down to the correct level and further drainage works are scheduled for next week, which will involve installing manholes, carrier drains, vortex separators and stone filler drains, the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson added: “Thank you to the local community and highway users for their continued patience during these improvement works.”
Work to build the new link road began on September 9, having been announced the month before.
Once construction on both roads is complete, they will be joined by a mini roundabout and will include a new footpath and cycleway.
The scheme aims to increase connectivity between Bramford Road and Sproughton Road.
Suffolk County Council hoped this would ease congestion in the area, which can get busy during peak hours, while mitigating traffic through residential streets.
The work will be carried out across six phases and will use various traffic management methods for each, including temporary traffic lights and pedestrian crossing points.
Temporary parking restrictions will also be in place along part of Bramford Road.
A road closure could be installed toward the end of the works if deemed necessary, but full details will be confirmed at a later date.
