Six Suffolk farms and petting zoos perfect for summer holiday trips, including Jimmy's Farm in Ipswich and Tostock Animal Parks near Bury St Edmunds

With the summer holidays drawing ever closer, it's a good idea to start planning some possible days out to entertain the kids.

Suffolk is full of farms, many of which allow youngsters to hold and pet their animals, which could be a great time-filler particularly on a warm summer's day.

Here's six farms and petting zoos in the county that you just might want to work into your holiday schedule this year...

1. Hollow Trees Farm

Hollow Trees in Semer, close to Hadleigh, offers visitors the chance to get up close with farm animals including cows, goats and donkeys.

Complete with a farm shop and farm cafe, both of which are open seven days a week, you could easily spend a day at Hollow Trees without getting bored.

Tickets for the farm trail are £5.50 when booked online and kids under three can get in for free.

2. Jimmy's Farm and Wildlife Park

Jimmy's Farm and Wildlife Park in Wherstead, Ipswich, is celebrating 20 years since opening in 2022.

Home to over 80 species, with everything from pigs and sheep to crocodiles, camels and raccoons, this park is a truly unique experience.

With a restaurant, coffee house and pizzeria, why not whittle away with hours with an educational trip to Jimmy's Farm this summer?

3. Baylham House Rare Breeds Farm

Baylham House Rare Breeds Farm, in between Needham Market and Ipswich, is a working livestock farm that rears native breeds that are now considered rare.

Animal feeding experiences are popular here and children can enjoy play areas and picnic areas as well as walks down the river to the mere.

Breeds include White Park and Highland cows, Greyface Dartmoor and Norfolk Horn sheep, Kune Kune pigs and Golden Guernsey goats.

4. Easton Farm Park

Easton Farm Park, near Woodbridge, offers exciting and educational experiences for youngsters with the ethos that "All children should grow up knowing what the wool on a sheep feels like,"

Each day children have the opportunity to try their hand at horse riding, cuddle with a bunny and meet all of the farmyard animals.

Craft workshops, a cafe, a tearoom and even the opportunity to try out 'goat yoga' ensures a trip to Easton Farm Park is one to remember.

5. Hundred River Farm

This Beccles-based family-run farm welcomes youngsters on school trips and after-school clubs as well as with families during holidays.

In the spring, Hundred River Farm runs lamb feeding sessions and throughout the summer there are plenty of events to keep visitors entertained, including weekly 'magic garden mornings' and 'natural wonder afternoons'.

Their mission is to get young people immersed in the beauty of rural Suffolk while teaching them about healthy living and taking care of the environment.

6. Tostock Animal Parks

Tostock Animal Parks near Bury St Edmunds is home to all sorts of exciting and adorable animals.

From horses and donkeys to pygmy goats and miniature pigs, the park is perfect for curious children and animal-loving adults alike.

With several picnic areas for visitors to enjoy a packed lunch in the Suffolk countryside, this park could be a great choice for you summer holiday day out.
