Suffolk MPs Matt Hancock, James Cartlidge, Therese Coffey and Tom Hunt share who they are backing in Conservative Party leadership contest
Four Suffolk MPs have revealed who they're backing to take over as prime minister.
This comes after Boris Johnson announced his resignation last week, but he's set to stay in the role until a new prime minister is chosen.
So far, three of the county's MPs have taken to social media to share their support for the candidate they're backing.
James Cartlidge, MP for South Suffolk, has revealed he is backing former Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak in the contest.
He said: "Rishi is a great leader with real integrity who will restore trust and bring our Party and more importantly our country back together.
"He will make a fantastic Prime Minister," he added.
Therese Coffey, MP for Suffolk Coastal and Secretary of State for Work and Pensions is backing Liz Truss, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs and MP for South West Norfolk.
She said of her support: "Proud to be backing my friend Liz Truss to be our next Prime Minister.
"We need a leader who can unite the Red and Blue Wall, has a clear vision for the country and economy and has the skills and experience to get the tough decisions right."
Meanwhile Tom Hunt, MP for Ipswich, has shared his support for Kemi Badenoch, Conservative MP for Saffron Walden.
Taking to twitter, Mr Hunt wished Ms Badenoch 'good luck' and said: "I'm backing her because she's the candidate that excites me the most and the one with the clearest vision.
"Authentic, passionate, patriotic. Pleased to be part of this exciting campaign," he added.
Matt Hancock, MP for West Suffolk, has become the fourth MP in the county to reveal his favourite.
Like James Cartlidge said he is backing Rishi Sunak, and added that he's the 'best candidate to lead this country'.
"He's got the plan, the character and the experience to deliver for the country, and win the next election," said Mr Hancock.
Other contenders include Penny Mordaunt, Nadhim Zahawi, Sajid Javid and Tom Tugendhat.
Jo Churchill, MP for Bury St Edmunds, Daniel Poulter, MP for Central Suffolk and North Ipswich and Peter Aldous, MP for Waveney, are yet to reveal who they are supporting.
