An Ipswich secondary school has been awarded a 'good' Ofsted rating following its first inspection since the school reopened.

Claydon High School closed and reopened under the same name in June 2017, becoming part of the South Suffolk Learning Trust.

Following its first Ofsted inspection since the reopening, the school has been awarded a 'good' rating, with inspectors praising the 'transparent culture of openness' and 'safe and supported' pupils.

The report also stated pupils had plenty of wider world experiences at the school, learning valuable life skills and responsibilities.

Parents praised staff saying they had their child's 'best interests at heart' and inspectors said the curriculum was well-considered.

Ofsted highlighted training for some leaders and improving pupil attendance are key focus areas for the school before next inspection, adding that 'the most disadvantaged pupils are absent from too many lessons.'

Inspectors held meetings with senior leaders, staff and pupils, and also viewed school documents and curriculum plans.

They also reviewed 61 responses submitted to Ofsted's online parent questionnaire and 46 free-text responses. Inspectors also considered 52 staff survey responses and 79 pupil questionnaire responses.

Maéve Taylor, Headteacher at the school, said: “I am very proud of the achievements of our students, supported by our excellent staff, and this report recognises the contributions of everyone involved in the learning and personal development of our young people.

"Every parent, carer and teacher want each and every young person to be “self-confident, polite and respectful” and it is very pleasing that Ofsted recognised this as a feature of the educational experience enjoyed at our school.”
