Framlingham singer Ed Sheeran returns with new single 'Afterglow'
Suffolk singer Ed Sheeran has released his first new music in over a year with a single called 'Afterglow' this morning – but he has added it's not the first single from his next album.
The musician, who lives in Framlingham with his wife Cherry Seaborn and their young baby Lyra Antarctica, teased a return to music yesterday when he shared a picture and a story on his Instagram with the message '11am GMT tomorrow. A Christmas present'.
Sharing a snippet of the new song on his Instagram at 11am, Sheeran said: "Hey guys. Afterglow is a song I wrote last year that I wanted to release for you.
"It’s not the first single from the next album, it’s just a song I love, and hope you love too. Enjoy!"
He wished his fans a 'safe and happy festive break and New Year's', before saying he was going 'back to dad land'.
'Afterglow' marks his first new music since he released his No.6 Collaborations Project in July of last year.
In the 25 minutes since it was published on YouTube, Afterglow has already racked up 117,500 views.
The new song comes after Sheeran announced he was taking a break at the end of last year following his Divide tour which closed with four homecoming dates in Ipswich in August 2019.
In that post, he said he had been a 'bit non stop since 2017' and added he would be off of all social media 'until it's time to come back'.
Sheeran made a brief return to social media in September when he announced that he and his wife Cherry had welcomed their first child, Lyra Antarctica.
