Taco Bell looking to move into former Ipswich Frankie and Benny’s in Edith Cook Way

As hungry diners await the opening of Ipswich’s first Taco Bell, the firm has its eyes on a second location within the town.

Samuel Blackburn, from Taco Bell UK, has submitted plans to make alterations to the former Frankie and Benny’s eatery, at 5 Edith Cook Way, on the Ravenswood Estate.

If approved, the American fast food chain’s familiar purple frontage and signs would decorate the building, while a new bin storage area would be created.

The main feature of the converted building would be a drive-through.

Earlier this year, Chargemaster Ltd, owned by BP, was given the green light to build electric vehicle charging ports outside the former Frankie and Benny’s and Chiquito.

It was also allowed to install drive-throughs at both sites.

Both eateries closed during last summer and were listed on the market shortly after.

Owners The Restaurant Group cut 35 locations across the UK to boost its earnings.

Its closure meant there were no Frankie and Benny’s eateries remaining in Suffolk.

Taco Bell will open in Anglia Retail Park later this year after more than a year’s delay.

The eatery, which moved into the former Carphone Warehouse, was due to welcome diners during the summer of 2023.
