Suffolk New College student hoping to scale-up quirky clothing-brand business 'Stupid Fish People'
A Suffolk New College student is hoping to scale-up his unique clothing business and take it to the next level in 2022.
Harry Roper, 18, from Ipswich, started his business, Stupid Fish People, 18 months ago.
The quirky name came about by complete accident whilst the level three art student was doodling in class.
Now, the young entrepreneur sells his printed t-shirts, beanies and hoodies online.
He said: “I make everything by hand and design hats, jumpers and t-shirts. So far it’s been going really well.
“However, I’ve college work and a job to contend with, so after I’ve completed my next major assignment, I’ll be able to spend more time on the business.
“I want to take it as far as I can.”
For other young people thinking about setting up their own business, Harry offers up some advice.
He said: “Don’t start with the intention of having a career out of your business.
“Do it because it’s something that you love doing. Talk to as many people as possible - the more people you talk to, the more connections you make.”
Harry went on to say that Suffolk New College has been extremely supportive in developing his business.
He said: “The tutors have been encouraging and have given me advice in relation to my business.
"They even hosted a Christmas market recently for everyone on my course to sell their work.”
