Teenage boy arrested after Ormiston Endeavour Academy in Ipswich went into lockdown
A teenage boy has been arrested after an Ipswich school went into lockdown earlier today.
Ormiston Endeavour Academy, in Defoe Road, initiated safety measures this morning after a boy with a knife was spotted in the school’s back field.
Suffolk Police confirmed it was called to the area at 7.57am and the boy was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon at 9.30am.
A knife was recovered at the scene.
The boy was taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre, where he remains.
A spokesperson for Ormiston Endeavour Academy said police were quick to the scene after the lockdown was initiated.
They said: “At no point did the individual come onto the main site, any buildings, or be in any close proximity to children, and once the lockdown lifted the school day continued as normal.
“We would like to thank all our students and staff for following our robust safety procedures, and for the support received from our school community.”
A spokesman for Suffolk Police said it is being treated as an isolated incident with no ongoing risk.
No one was injured.
