Emma Lovell murder: Teenager involved in fatal Brisbane burglary that led to death of Ipswich mum-of-two walks free after sentencing

A teenager involved in a burglary that resulted in the death of a Suffolk mum-of-two in Australia has walked free after sentencing.

Emma Lovell, 41, was stabbed to death during a home invasion in North Lakes, Brisbane, on December 26, 2022.

Having grown up near Ipswich, she emigrated to Australia in 2011.

The 19-year-old, who cannot be named as he was 17 when the attack took place, was convicted of burglary and assault in October.

However, Justice Michael Copley found him not guilty of murder as well as malicious act with intent and unlawful wounding at Brisbane.

According to ABC, the teenager was in court again yesterday, facing sentencing for those charges as well as 20 other offences.

The court was told the defendant had a lengthy criminal history. He previously violated probation and was released on bail for similar offending on the day of the attack.

Justice Copley sentenced the teenager to 18 months in detention and recorded a conviction for three of 21 offences, ABC said.

As he had already served that time awaiting trial, he was released from prison.

In a victim statement, Ms Lovell’s husband, Lee, told the court he was afraid to leave his own home.

According to ABC, he said: “I still wake up at night fearing that someone is in our house again, constantly checking the cameras to make sure.”

On the night of the attack, Ms Lovell and Lee confronted two 17-year-old boys.

It was shortly after this that one of the boys stabbed Ms Lovell to death while also injuring Lee.

The other boys, who admitted murder, was jailed for 14 years in May for the killing.
