The five Ipswich surgeries set for upgrades as Government announces funding, including Chantry Clinic and Derby Road Medical Practice
Upgrades will be made to five surgeries in Ipswich as part of a nationwide drive to boost NHS provision.
The Government is set to spend £102 million to create more space at GPs, which it hoped would lead to 8.3 million more appointments per year.
In total, five GPs in Ipswich have been chosen. It is expected that all upgrades will be done during the 2025/26 financial year – with the first upgrades set to begin over the summer.
The GPs are:
► Chantry Clinic, Hawthorn Drive
► Ivry Street Medical Practice
► Derby Road Practice
► Cardinal Medical Practice, Deben Road
► Pinewood Surgery.
Jack Abbott, MP for Ipswich, welcomed the news, describing it as the biggest investment GPs have seen in years.
He said: “Residents in Ipswich tell me time and again how frustrating it is to face the dreaded ‘8am scramble’ just to get a GP appointment.
“I promised that Labour would bring back the family doctor and with 1,500 new GPs already recruited, I’m proud that we are starting to deliver on that promise.
“But that was just the beginning. We said we would fix the front door of the NHS – and today we’re fixing the front, the sides, the back and every room in between.”
