The lovable Suffolk cats searching for a new home

Welcoming a cat into your home is a big decision but also a very rewarding thing to do.

Many homeless felines are desperate to be given a chance and find a forever home they can call their own.

RSPCA Suffolk has provided profiles of four felines looking for a new family.

Name: Sid

Breed: Domestic short-haired

Age: Three years old

Sid came in the RSPCA centre after his previous owner died.

He has found the cattery environment quite stressful and has been worried about getting to know his new handlers.

However, since settling into this new environment Sid has started to show he has an affectionate side.

This little chap now greets the staff when they go into his pen and gives a nice headbutt on the hand to show he would like to have a little fuss.

Sid does have petting aggression, so would benefit from being rehomed to someone who knows cat behaviour and body language and when to give him his space.

Do you have the time and patience this boy needs to be your new family member?

Name: Devon

Breed: Domestic semi-long haired

Age: Adult

Devon came into our care after being found as an injured stray.

He had multiple abscesses from suspected cat fights which left him feeling very sorry for himself.

After being given a nice environment, care and the odd dose of antibiotics, the abscesses have healed up lovely.

When Devon arrived at the centre he was given a blood test to see if he had feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) or feline leukemia virus (FELV.) Unfortunately, he did come back positive for FIV so must now be rehomed as an indoor cat.

Devon was not coping well with the cattery environment and the team at RSPCA were not convinced they had seen his true character so he is now in foster care.

It was clear after the first 24 hours that Devon has way more to give than seen in the cattery. Every day his temperament is improving with his foster parents and his little quirks are now beginning to show.

Now, Devon is always there to greet his foster family when they have been out and enjoys getting some fuss and love while he chirps away.

He appears to have a possible skin sensitivity issue so is currently on some medication and special food to help. The branch will help with funding towards the bits and pieces Devon requires for this issue.

Devon is looking for a calm and patient home that will respect his space and give him fuss on his terms.

Could you be Devon’s second chance?

Name: Tundra

Tundra loves to curl up in warm places

Breed: Domestic short-haired

Age: Two years old

Tundra came into the centre via an inspector.

Tundra has not had the best start in life. She is very under-socialised so is not completely comfortable with all the normal things that a domestic cat would like.

After not coping in the cattery, Tundra has been living in her new foster home where people are learning a lot more about her character.

Tundra loves the luxuries that come with a domestic life, such as warm places to curl up, regular feeding, toys and security.

However, she does not like physical contact from her human companions.

Tundra is quite happy to sit next to people and watch the day go by, but that is as far as she wants the contact to go.

Since being in her foster home, Tundra has taken a liking to their resident dog so if introduced properly she could live with another. Because of her temperament, she would be better with teenagers rather than children.

Do you have the right home for this little inbetweener cat?

Name: Maggie

Breed: Crossbreed

Age: Eight years old

Maggie came to the centre after not getting on with a new baby in her previous home.

Maggie is looking for an experienced owner who understands cat body language.

She can be sweet and affectionate when she wants to be, but this must be on her own terms.

She appears to be a bit more independent than dependant when it comes to being around humans, but does enjoy interactions at her own pace.

Maggie will benefit from being taught that being groomed is not always a bad thing, as her coat does require some maintenance.

Do you have the right knowledge and environment for this girl to feel comfortable and happy?
