Ipswich parkrun to return to Christchurch Park after months-long break

Ipswich’s parkrun event is set to return from its months-long hiatus later this year.

The organisers of the event, held every Saturday at 9am, are in the final stages of bringing it back to Christchurch Park.

It previously took place in Chantry Park before it stopped suddenly at the end of January after attendance concerns due to poor weather.

The organisers believed it would be postponed for a few weeks, but it never returned from its hiatus.

They hoped to announce the date of the relaunch soon.

Ipswich Borough Council said it was pleased to hear the event would be returning.

Councillor Lucy Trenchard, from Ipswich Borough Council, welcomed news of its return.

She said: “Parkrun is a much-loved event that brings people together and supports health and wellbeing whilst at the same time showcasing one of our town’s finest parks. Christchurch Park is a fantastic community space, and we’ve been ready and waiting to welcome parkrun back.

“We’re pleased to finally see progress from Ipswich parkrun and look forward to its return.”

Jack Abbott, MP for Ipswich, welcomed the news.

He said: "As an occasional park runner myself, I know that parkrun is a great way to get fit and feel part of a wider community.

"Thank you to the local parkrun team and Ipswich Borough Council for finding a resolution so this popular weekly event can return to one of our town's award-winning parks.

“I hope to see lots of people at the start line in Christchurch Park very soon.”
