Officers attended to begin a search and at 9.20pm a further call came into the control room from Ipswich Hospital reporting a man had attended Accident and Emergency with stab wounds to his back and side.

The victim, aged in his 20s, received treatment for his injuries and was later discharged.

Detectives are now pursuing numerous lines of inquiry following the incident.

It is believed there were eight suspects involved in the attack who were all described as wearing dark clothing and with their faces obscured.

A red Fiat 500 and white Ford Fiesta have also been linked to the incident.

Yesterday, two people were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm.

They were taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning and subsequently released on bail until June 14 pending further inquiries.

Police are now renewing an appeal for any witnesses to the incident and are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen either the red Fiat 500 or white Ford Fiesta - both of which were likely to be carrying numerous passengers - between 4pm and 10pm yesterday.

Anyone in the vicinity of Hawthorn Drive and the Chantry estate last night who saw anything suspicious is also asked to get in touch.

Residents are asked to check any CCTV or doorbell cameras they have, while any motorists driving in the area with a dashcam fitted in their vehicle are asked to review the footage for anything that may be of assistance.

Additional visible patrols are being carried out in the area and a Section 60 order authorised providing officers with additional power to stop and search for a 24-hour period came to an end at 10.45pm last night.

Any witnesses, or anyone with information about the incident, is asked to contact South CID at Landmark House in Ipswich, quoting reference: 29847/22.
