Nikolin Marku and Aleksander Gjoni from London jailed for drug offences in Ipswich

Two men have been jailed after pleading guilty to drug offences in a Suffolk town.

Aleksander Gjoni, 25, and Nikolin Marku, 31, both from London, pleaded guilty at Ipswich Crown Court yesterday after being linked to an address in Cullingham Road, Ipswich, where police uncovered a cannabis cultivation site.

Officers from Suffolk’s Sentinel team stopped a vehicle in Dunlop Road on February 14 where they found Gjoni riding as a passenger, and intelligence gathered from the stop linked him to the Cullingham Road address.

The police later witnessed another man attend the property and place bin bags into his vehicle - and once stopped, the bags were found to contain numerous cannabis plants.

The driver was Marku who was then arrested and a search of the Cullingham Road site lead to the arrest of Gjoni.

They were both charged with production of a Class B drug (cannabis) and being concerned in the supply of cannabis.

Marku, of Victoria Road in London, was sentenced to three years in prison while Gjoni, of Vicars Bridge Close, Wembley, Greater London, was handed a nine-month sentence.

The investigation was carried out by the Sentinel team which focuses on disrupting serious and organised criminal activity across Suffolk's road network while increasing police visibility.
