Two teenagers are set to appear in court today charged in connection with a stabbing that left a man with serious injuries.

It comes after emergency services were called to reports a man had been stabbed in Ipswich's Upper Brook Street on Thursday at about 9.10pm.

After the incident, the victim - along with two other men - fled the scene, running along Tavern Street and into Tower Street where he collapsed.

Initial witness accounts told of an altercation between two small groups of men, one of whom was thought to have been carrying a large knife.

The 28-year-old victim sustained a deep cut to his shoulder, a puncture to his lung and a wound to his wrist.

He was taken to hospital with injuries that were initially described as potentially life-threatening, but following treatment, he left hospital on Friday afternoon.

Early enquiries led detectives to believe this was not a random attack.

As a precautionary measure, a Section 60 order was authorised about 30 minutes after the incident at 9.40pm for an initial period of 24 hours, which granted officers additional powers to stop and search. This was rescinded at 12.15pm on Friday.

Officers conducted numerous enquiries over the past three days, which resulted in the arrests of two teenage boys in connection with the incident.

Both were taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning and they have subsequently been charged.

A 16-year-old boy from Stowmarket was charged with three offences: causing grievous bodily harm with intent; affray; and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

Meanwhile, a 16-year-old boy from Ipswich was charged with affray.

The pair have been remanded in custody to appear before Ipswich Magistrates' Court today.
