Ipswich volunteer Bethany Pattinson recognised for tireless work by Asthma + Lung UK
A woman from Ipswich has been recognised for her tireless volunteer work to support those with lung conditions.
Bethany Pattinson was handed the compassionate thinker award at Asthma + Lung UK’s annual volunteer conference on June 4, during Volunteers’ Week.
After being diagnosed with a lung condition herself two years ago, she contacted the charity and found their advice ‘especially helpful’.
In October 2023, she joined the charity as an ambassador and has dedicated her time to supporting those with similar conditions and raising awareness in her community.
Regarding the honour, she said: “Receiving the award was such an incredible honour, I was genuinely over the moon.
“Volunteering has been such a rewarding experience for me and to be recognised for something I’m so passionate about was truly humbling.
“I’m so proud to be able to help make a difference and raise awareness for a cause that means so much.
“It's a reminder that even small efforts can have a big impact, and I’m grateful to be part of something so meaningful."
Bethany’s work includes reaching out to primary school in Ipswich to promote the charity’s Clean Air Champions project, to building relationships with GP surgeries, or visiting pharmacies.
It ensures those suffering from conditions such as asthma, bronchitis or lung cancer.
Lucia Ciolanel, volunteer engagement manager at Asthma + Lung UK, praised Bethany for her dedication.
She added: “Bethany has wholeheartedly embraced her role as a volunteer ambassador.
Through her activities and passion, she has significantly contributed to ensuring that more people with lung conditions feel seen, heard and supported.
“Bethany’s work in her community is invaluable and her dedication to supporting people living with lung conditions has been inspirational,” she said.
“This award is incredibly well deserved and our way of thanking Bethany for the time and support she has dedicated to volunteering at the charity.”
