Watch as VE Day tribute is beamed across the A14 Orwell Bridge outside Ipswich
A special tribute to the end of the Second World War in Europe lit up the Orwell Bridge last night.
‘Guerrilla marketing’ firm Motion Mapping was behind the dazzling VE Day projection on the A14 outside Ipswich.
Onlookers gathered to watch the display from 9.30pm yesterday.
Robert Pott, marketing manager for Motion Mapping, said the event was a proud moment for the firm.
“We didn’t really want to let the 80th celebration of VE Day pass without doing something of our own to mark the occasion,” he said.
“When we heard that people would be lighting beacons in honour of the day, we thought it would be cool to project our own beacon onto the Orwell Bridge.
“Not many people can do what we do, with the equipment required. We’re one of the top projection firms in Europe.”
Motion Mapping has made similar projections onto the Orwell Bridge in the past.
This included a Star Wars Day display for May 4, 2023, and another for the Tour of Britain the following month.
Other campaigns it has taken part in include projecting onto Tower Bridge, The Shard, the V&A Museum and even Stonehenge.
Robert said this event was advertised through social media and drew crowds.
The team were set up in a van near Suffolk Food Hall.
Robert added: “The Orwell Bridge is an iconic landmark, and to use it as a platform to mark such a significant occasion is truly special.
“We aimed to create an experience that resonates with both the local community and beyond."
