Watch: Timelapse of Ipswich mural on Ashtons Legal building in Portman Road, painted by WOSkerski
A timelapse has been shared with SuffolkNews, offering a sneak-peek at how one of an art festival’s flagship pieces of work came to be.
A mural depicting a ladybird was painted on the side of the Ashtons Legal building, in Portman Road, during the lead-up to the festival.
It was painted by urban artist WOSkerski.
The London-based artist said the goal of the mural, as well as the surreal style of his work, was not only to make people smile, but also to make them stop and try to interpret the art in their own way.
WOSkerski added: “A cute ladybird makes people smile, and when you look closer, you realise some of its spots are missing. Instead, you have members of the community making their own mark on the ladybird's shell, which can also be seen as them making a difference.
“This is empowering. It also portrays the joy that people feel when doing something artistic. I hope the people of Ipswich enjoy and have fun with the mural.”
Ashtons Legal said it was proud to be part of the festival.
Jeanette Wand, from the firm, said: “We were pleased to have been asked to take part. We realised we had an office with this big, blank space on it, and wanted to do something interesting with it.
“We were really interested in taking part, then saw we would be working with WOSkerski and his art.”
Ms Wand said public reception to the ‘striking’ mural was overwhelmingly positive.
She added: “We’ve only had good feedback from people walking past and asking questions, or comments on social media. It’s also drawn interest from our branches in other towns, getting their eyes on Ipswich.”
