Ipswich waterfront given new street lighting after £129,000 investment funding

New street lighting has been installed along Ipswich waterfront.

Albion Wharf has seen 25 new low energy LED lanterns as part of the £2 million Ipswich Investment Fund.

The lights should have a life of 25 years and can be controlled remotely by Suffolk County Council’s central management system.

The project, which cost £129,000, was the first completed for the Ipswich Investment Fund, which aims to boost employment, arts, culture and sustainable travel in the town.

Cllr Paul West, from the county council, was thrilled with the result.

He said: “This is an area of town used by many residents and visitors, so it was important that a high standard of streetlighting was installed.

“One recommendation was to identify ways to improve the look and feel of neighbourhoods and the town centre through better street-lighting, so I am glad we have been able to do this in such a high-profile area.”

Streetlights placed by Ipswich Borough Council already dotted the waterfront.

The new scheme means the 0.7 mile stretch between DanceEast and Patteson Road would be lit.
