Freddie Green, six, helps out with family tree surgery business in Bramford, near Ipswich

A six-year-old boy from Suffolk is following in his father’s foot steps by helping out with the family’s tree surgery business.

Freddie Green, six, from Bramford, just outside of Ipswich, has been busy helping his dad, Rob, by chopping, storing and seasoning leftover wood to be sold as firewood through the business RSG Tree Services Ltd.

The youngster first got involved with the business two years ago and he regularly visits the yard, speaks with his dad’s colleagues and he even wakes up early to have his breakfast with his dad before school.

Rob, who started the tree surgery business when he was 17, said: “I’m a proper proud dad seeing just how popular Freddie’s firewood business has become.

“Knowing that he wants to become a tree surgeon is amazing.

“We obviously take into consideration all the health and safety side of things and he’s never on his own while he’s in the yard – but he just loves it.”

Freddie is a pupil at Bramford Primary School and, even after a long day of school, he goes to the site afterwards to help put away all the equipment and lock up the site with his father.

His own Facebook page has now been launched for customers to order ton bags of firewood for £50 each – and after a post of Freddie’s efforts went viral on social media, he now has a busy diary of deliveries to make throughout the summer holidays as well as for the winter.

Abbie Green, Freddie’s mum, said: “It really just started as a way of keeping Freddie occupied as he tends to get bored of things quite quickly, but it’s grown into a big passion for him now.

“We’re so proud of him – at such a young age, he’s already so work-orientated which is a great skill to have.

“It makes me happy to know the business is already in safe hands going into the future.”

Freddie, who has three younger brothers, has even started saving up his money to invest into more equipment for his firewood business – rather than spending it on toys and sweets.
