Hope the polar bear dies at Jimmy's Farm near Ipswich
A beloved polar bear who ‘touched countless lives’ has died following a dental procedure.
Jimmy's Farm and Wildlife Park in Wherstead, near Ipswich, announced the death of Hope the polar bear on social media this afternoon.
Despite the efforts of a team of seven specialist veterinary surgeons, two nurses and animal care staff, Hope did not recover.
They said: “We are deeply saddened to announced the loss of Hope, our much-loved polar bear, who passed away following a vital dental procedure.
“This procedure was undertaken as part of our ongoing commitment to ensure the highest possible welfare standards for the animals in our care.
“While the outcome was not what any of us had hoped for, it reflects the reality that, in zoological and conservation work, animals often require complex veterinary interventions to maintain their quality of life.
“Hope's passing is a profound loss for our park and our conservation community.”
The park thanked veterinary professionals who cared for Hope — adding that while the animal’s death was devastating, her legacy would continue as a symbol of conservation.
They added: “We would like to thank the veterinary professionals who gave their utmost to care for Hope, as well as our dedicated animal team who worked with compassion and commitment every day.
“We remain steadfast in our mission to protect and conserve wildlife, both here in Suffolk and around the world. Hope will be remembered not only as a remarkable animal who touched countless lives, but also as an ambassador for her species.”
