Storm Ellen: Workers in place on Ipswich's Orwell Bridge on A14 as 'precautionary measure' over windy weather

Contractors and traffic officers are monitoring a busy bridge in Suffolk this afternoon, as Storm Ellen sees strong winds sweep across the country.

Highways England said they have "pre-positioned" contractors and traffic officers on Orwell Bridge on the A14 in Ipswich as a "precautionary measure".

In a post on Twitter, their East division said that forecasts indicated that they should not need to close the bridge.

They suggested people should continue to follow their Twitter feed for more information.

It comes after the Met Office issued a yellow warning for wind in the UK today, which is in place until 6pm.

"Strong winds on Friday are expected to lead to some travel disruption and perhaps some temporary power disruption," reads a post on their website.
