Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna says Wes Burns will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL
Ipswich Town’s Wes Burns has been ruled out for the rest of the season.
The 30-year-old winger has torn his ACL, an injury suffered in the 4-1 loss at Liverpool last weekend.
Blues boss Kieran McKenna said: “He’s got a torn ACL so he’ll go for surgery next week.
“We know it’s a significant period of time in terms of timeline. It’s not a complicated tear, you can never call it straight-forward, but everyone’s really positive about the prognosis.
“We will miss him but he’ll be well looked after. It’s a blow, no doubt about that.”
McKenna insisted Burns’ injury doesn’t mean he will rush into a replacement before the January transfer window closes on Monday evening.
“We have good depth in the squad, we have other players that can fill the role in different ways with different qualities. We’re not going to make any panic decisions in the transfer market
“If there’s players that can really improve us then we’ll look to do so but we’re not going to add numbers for the sake of cover.”
Burns, who joined Ipswich from Fleetwood in 2021, has made 18 Premier League appearances this season.
“Of course he’s disappointed he’ll miss the rest of the season but he’s got a good perspective on it as well,” added McKenna. “He’s one who is really appreciative that three years ago he was playing at Fleetwood and doing a significant injury then is worse than doing it off a couple of promotions and almost 20 games in the Premier League.
“He will come back strong, I’ve got no doubts on that. Over the course of a football career, these things can happen.”
